One in five adults today experiences a mild to severe mental health challenge [1]. In Virginia, that means 1.12 million people among our neighbors, co-workers, family members, and friends — more than four times the population of Richmond — can benefit from mental health and wellness support. Everyone plays a role in strengthening our community. Read on to learn how you can help.

Getting involved in the Coalition’s work is simple, yet can make a big impact:

Volunteer on a Coalition Committee

  • The Public Awareness Committee partners with local organizations to promote stigma reduction, help-seeking behavior, awareness of local resources, and community initiated care.  The committee meets every other month on the first Tuesday at noon.  To learn more about the committee, contact Jen Fleischer at Jennifer.Fleisher@vdh.virginia.gov
  • The Anti-racism, Racial Awareness, and Inclusion through Sensitivity and Equity (ARISE) Committee promotes training on anti-racist attitudes, values, beliefs, and practices.  The committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month at noon.  To learn more about the committee, contact Andrea Perez at aperez@albemarle.org.
  • The Opioid Stakeholder Group coordinates an opioid system of care throughout the region, with a focus on prevention, treatment, recovery, and other healthcare objectives.  The committee meets every other month on the second Thursday of the month at 11:00AM.  To learn more about the committee, contact Virginia Leavell at vleavell@rescue1.org.

We all have a role to play in promoting community mental health and wellness.
